Find the Right Record Office

For a La Plata County jail booking sheet or photograph, contact the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office Records Division at 283 Girard Street, Durango, CO 81303, or call 970-247-1157. Its official Records Requests page links online and paper release forms. Paper requests may be faxed to 970-259-4595. Ask for “Booking Sheet/Mugshot,” identify the person and event precisely, and request a cost and timing estimate.

For present county custody, contact the La Plata County Detention Center, 742 Turner Drive, Durango, CO 81303, at 970-247-1161. The facility can address current custody questions. It cannot supply legal advice or decide the outcome of a court case. Call 911 for an emergency. Regional non-emergency dispatch used by Durango and Bayfield materials is 970-385-2900.

  • Durango Police records: 990 E. 2nd Avenue, Durango, CO 81301; 970-375-4750; Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Use the written police records portal.
  • Bayfield Police records: 1199 Bayfield Parkway, P.O. Box 80, Bayfield, CO 81122; 970-884-9636; bpd@bayfieldgov.org. Ask for current fees and timing.
  • Ignacio Police records: 540 Goddard Avenue, P.O. Box 459, Ignacio, CO 81137; 970-563-4206. After-hours officer requests go to 970-563-4401.
  • Court disposition: The Colorado Judicial Branch and La Plata County clerk hold state case schedules, filings, and final orders. The clerk line is 970-247-2304.
  • State corrections: The Colorado Department of Corrections holds state offender records after a person enters its system.

Choose the office by record type. LPCSO holds county detention and sheriff material. DPD, BPD, and IPD control their own incident records. Colorado courts hold the case outcome. CDOC, BOP, and ICE cover state, federal, and immigration custody, respectively. This division keeps a request from being sent to an office that never created the record.

Questions about site operation, a broken internal link, or general editorial wording may be sent through the site’s available contact channel. Do not send dates of birth, case documents, payment data, medical information, or other sensitive personal material. Government record requests must go straight to the responsible agency.
